Check out the weather cam today. I have knee-deep snow in my driveway. People stuck all over, snow plows are out and I can't get back in my driveway. Snow is almost waist deep across drive. We'll have much more shoreline damage with wind out of the east. Some city officials are blaming the breakwalls for current changes. Not so. Think about it. The Earth's axis angle, changes in wind direction, etc. When you come back for the reunion, there may not be any Lakeshore blvd OR picnic rocks. Holy Waugh!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! Not sure, but, I think we may start having penguins migrating to  Marquette.LOL

The weather cam I check out for Upper harbor/island has been black for a few days.  It is thru NMU.  Is there another one around that I can check out?  Saw the bridge and am glad I don't have to cross that today!!!

Very sorry to hear of Robert Apple's passing. RIP. My prayers go out to his family.

I now have the same amount of snow this "season" as I did last spring. Lake Sore blvd is closed from fair ave to Hawlley street as well as picnic rocks for the rest of this winter.

I will try to get some pics to Pat so she can post them or if I figure out how to add them to my posting.

Hi all

A quick note to let you know that Jan Clark Greenleaf fell and broke a number of ribs, her clavicle, and punctured a lung. She is recovering at Norlite nursing home. If any have time I'm sure she would enjoy some company. I would guess she will be there at least another week. She is in room 405.

Jan and I have an inside joke between us.  Remember a few years ago when she got hit by a car crossing Third Street in front of Vango’s.  If you have seen those hand held stop signs school road crossing guards use to stop traffic.  I made one of those for her at the time when she was in the Nursing home which she said she has saved.  She now sits with her husband Neal right behind my wife and I at all the NMU home hockey games.  I will be checking on her at the Nursing home.

John Trudeau: If you speak to her please tell her she is in my thoughts.                     Tis the season to be merry......so......how about if we all add our class to our Christmas lists??? It wouldn't have to be much...whatever one can spare. Lets get a head start on having a great 2020 reunion. I'll be sending my check to Pat Nevala soon. Everybody have a wonderful Christmas & please be safe traveling!!

Robert Nolingberg

Our mother Grace Nolingberg whom taught home economics at Gravette and Marquette High School passed on Christmas Eve. She was 102.  Her memorial service will be in Green Bay on Sunday 29 December.  She often talked about her days teaching and was fond of meeting her former students when she was about in Marquette.

After attending last night's MAPS Board meeting I left feeling sad and depressed after seeing the concerted and pointed effort by those wanting to get rid of the Redmen nickname.

It appeared most in opposition were NMU faculty and students in the Native American studies who never attended MAPS as students or know the culture of MSHS.

Whenever the term Redmen was used it was termed racist by this faction.

About 60 people addressed the Board Monday night. Those in favor of retaining the Redmen name brought up several interesting points:

1. There are about five (unnamed) teachers  at MSHS who are calling students who are in favor of retaining the Redmen name, racists, according to their parents who spoke.

2. No reason has been given to the public as to why all team and individual sports records listed on the gym walls have been removed and destroyed.

3. Those in opposition dismiss anyone who says Redmen stands for courage, strenght and power,

Those for change suggested the name be changed to the Marquette Mariners to provide a good gender neutral name and depict the area from where the school is from while halting the current recist name.

That's what is going on in Marquette. I can't wait until this group goes after the teams in Ishpeming and Negaunee for their nicknames.

I ALSO FEEL SAD. THAT EVERYTHING IN THIS WORLD TODAY HAS TO HAVE AN UNDER TONE OF RACIST. IF THEY CHANGE THE NAME TO MAINERS WILL SOMEONE WANT THAT CHANGED TO SOMTHING ELSE BECAUSE MAYBE THE MAINERS DURING THE OLD TIMES POLLUTED LAKE SUPERIOR. I THINK IF WE HAVE ANY LAWERS IN OUR CLASS OR THE CLASSES BEFORE AND AFTER SHOULD DO A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST  THE PARTIES INVOLVED IN REMOVAL OF OUR SPORT HERITAGE. WHO RUNS THAT MEETING YOU WERE AT. I NEAVER HEARD OF THAT GROUP.

I'm also sorry to hear about the Redmen controversy.  I'm so sick of people playing the racist card.  I think being a mascot for a team should be an honor.  I'm surprised that this didn't take place sooner.
