Karen Wright (Lancaster)

Thank you Sandie!  They don't know where to turn and I have not lived there in so long I don't know anyone to ask.

I sure wish we were home to help them. My son is working out of town for 3 weeks, so he'd be no help. He doesn't know anyone offhand who is not working to be able to help them. I'm pretty sure Pat & John are affiliated with a church. An appeal to them would be appropriate if all other avenues have been exhausted.

I heard the logo is coming up for a vote on Monday to "retire" the Indian Head...or not. I will be going to Embroidery Wearhouse Monday to have a jacket made with the Redmen logo AND Indian Head no matter the cost and I WILL be wearing both all over town, no matter who doesn't like it.

This is total B.S. It should never have gotten this far.

  Yes...I'm a Rebel...just like the "old" days.

Well folks, the Indian head has been "retired" as the cowards put it!  Now I'm really P#&^%d off. I will be walking with a sign soon and it will be in a window of my car. Not right and not fair.

Bob Lambert: You are right....it is ridiculous & unfair. I believe a Robert Lorinser had something to do with this. Do not know what his title is...he is running for something...maybe city counsel. He posted a rant on FB about how he was finally going to take a stand & not let anybody intimidate him any more & he would be speaking his mind at the meeting on the 17th.

When I get home I'm going to that embroidery place to see what's available. I would be proud to sport that logo.

Go Redmen!!

Marquette, Michigan is the only place in the United States where minority "rules".

I have two signs being made and will have a jacket made also and will be wearing it as often as I feel the need.......ALL the time.

I  even have words I have chosen to represent my feelings about  OUR logo on the jacket also, possibly in the Ojibwa language...strength,honor,knowledge,loyalty,honesty,bravery,perseverance.

If any one knows a good lawyer who is willing to file a class action suit against the board and individual board members. I would be willing to contribute. Maybe we could run an ad in the paper to see who is willing to go along. we are the strong in numbers. What is the name of the board member who vote to end the REDMAN

More of the PC madness. What's the point of trying to rewrite our schools history? I always felt pride to wear the logo and to be educated with the spirit of the Native American people. They successfully endured and developed societies that thrived in the North American wilderness. Far too little is understood about the past and way of life of these people's , so I would suggest once again we are losing another part of the UP past through ignorance of the few making decisions for the many. As for me I will chose to honor the tribal past that we were associated with as we were experiencing in our formative years.

Class reunion alert!!  I'm sending out information and the registration form for our 55th reunion today to your email address.  I'll also post on the website.

Embroidery Wearhouse will print "our" Logo on anything you want.  As for the few being able to "rewrite" OUR history...start E-mailing the MAPS school district. Inundate them with our opposition to "retire" OUR Logo. Was it not the classmate's decision to adopt the Indian head logo? How is it possible the school board can abolish it? I now have my sign and will be parading around with it. It is in my car ready to go. I will also be wearing my hat to the re-union...BOTH days.

I will find out the cost of t-shirts. I may have some made along with my jacket...with 1965 on them.                       Also, send E-mails to the mining journal and tv 6. Now it's OUR turn to put ourselves "on the map"

just remembered... there is a place in town that does t shirts. I'll stop there tomorrow.

A crying shame.  People need to put on their Big boy/girl pants & accept the fact that you cannot change everything.  Seems this world is going to hell in a handbasket!  No morals, no respect, no conscience, etc anymore.  Thanks for your support.  Sorry, "we" lost the battle.  Whatever, name/logo they come up with...we will all still be proud Redmen!!! It has nothing to do with prejudice!!!!

Most of Marquette is refusing to put OUR Logo on anything because of "copyright infringement".  What a buch of candy asses. Keep your eyes open in the mining journal. IF they will print what I wrote. Personaly, I don't think they have the.........intestinal fortitude....to print it. Never again will I 'role over and play dead" for these....liberal asses.                                                                                                                                                    Hey, Caroll, that's my saying. ( Gone to hell in a hand basket).Lol                                                                           Embroidary Wearhouse doesn't care. If I order t-shirts, I'll have to order at least 12. That is their minimum. Might be a bit pricey...I'll find out.

Sandie Hanson (Laine)

Bob Lambert: Class members will buy Tshirts. I'll buy a 1X. Just tell me how much..I'll send you a check.

Better yet...just start taking orders.

One clarification from the TV6 website - the only thing retired at this time was the Native Chief logo not the Redmen/Redette names.  Apparently, the Native Chief logo has not been used much in the last couple of decades.

There's also an online petition to save the Redmen/Redette names.

One more item - this is from the Save the Redmen Facebook page.  I can't vouch for its accuracy but for those interested, you may want to check out this Facebook page.  If you live in the school district, watch for the postcard. If your mail is being forwarded because you're a snowbird, you may not have a lot of time to vote.

Save The Marquette Redmen

February 19 at 5:26 PM ·

All registered voters in the MAPS School District will have an opportunity to vote to keep the Redmen name. Each voter will receive a post card via mail to the address they are registered to vote at. (The home address you listed with the Secretary of State) The post card will have a website you will go to and enter in your pin and complete the survey. They'll be mailed out on March 2, 2020 and registered voters will have about 2 weeks to go to the website and complete the survey. The voter roll has already been pulled. There's been some discussion regarding student voting, details still being discussed.

There will be two options:
1.) Keep nickname
2.) Get new nickname

I know what you mean, Ron, I used to wear X- large, but, I did so little this winter I need 1 or 2-X. Yikes!!!  I ordered a vest to carry conceled in X- large  so the pistol won't make me feel lopsided and if I zip it up I can't breath....Holy waugh!!!  I got lots of walking to do this year!! Lol (Especially UPhill, I can roll downhill just fine.)

Maybe I should make that a 1X.

In the process of looking up addresses for snail mail notices for the reunion, I discovered that Shirley Jandron passed away last month.  She was born in 1947.  Does anyone know if this was our classmate?  Services were at St. Peter's.

Bob Lambert...maybe you need to go back to shoveling...give up that fancy tractor. LOL..just kidding..I know what fighting the battle of the bulge is like. Everyone in da U.P. seems to gain in the winter.

Pat Nevala...Shirley Jandron was in our class. She was at our 50th, but did not stay long as she was ill then. She was a very nice person..shy..quiet. She grew up on one of those side streets to the left @ the top of Lincoln Ave...close to my neighborhood on Bluff St. So sorry to learn of her passing. Thanks for the notification.

Happy day, Sue!     Hope to see you two and many more in July.

Let’s all get those registration forms in asap so Pat can stop holding her breath!    She needs that information to finalize the reunion plans.  Thanks everyone.
