From Skip VanBuren - classmate Lauri (John) Tarris had a knee replacement recently and then suffered a stroke.  Skip says to keep Lauri in your thoughts for a speedy recovery.  If anyone needs contact information, let me know.

Classmate Sandy Burdick passed away today according to Bill Dupras.  We have now lost at least 59 classmates.

The good news as reported by Skip VanBuren is that Lauri (John) Tarris has been discharged from rehabilitation after suffering a stroke.  He is much improved.

That's very sad.  I knew Sandy from kindergarten at Nester...her brother Bobby a friend too.  Wonderful family.  So glad to hear that Laurie is doing well.  Best regards to all.  Stay safe!!

Saddened by Sandy's passing too.  Chuck, I remember her from Nestor too.   And, I believe that it is Sandy's sister Gayle who just recently lost her husband, Tom Cuff.  Condolences to those families.
Nice to hear that Lauri is on the mend.  Also good to know you are still chatting from, NJ?

RAPID RIVER, MI – Sandra Lee Bourgeois, age 74, of Rapid River, Michigan entered eternal life on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at home surrounded by her husband, son, and daughter after a long and courageous cancer battle.

Sandra was the 11th of 14 children born to Louis and Clarissa (Pringle) Burdick on January 29, 1947, at Saint Mary's Hospital in Marquette, Michigan. She was a 1965 graduate of Marquette Senior High School and a lifelong resident of Marquette until her retirement in 2002.

In 1968 Sandra married Joseph Bourgeois, also of Marquette, while he was stationed at Kincheloe AFB in Kinross, Michigan. Together, Sandy and Joe raised two children, Michael and Michelle. Sandy worked 30 years for the Michigan Secretary of State. One great benefit of her long tenure at the DMV was getting to know just about everyone in Marquette as they came through for their license renewal. She loved this part of her work and could not go out and about in Marquette without striking up a friendly conversation with someone she knew. Upon retirement, she and Joe moved to the place she loved on Sand Bay of Lake Michigan’s Big Bay de Noc., fondly referred to by family as “Sandy’s Bay”.

Sandy loved to travel, and together she and Joe traveled extensively throughout the U.S., as well as trips through Canada to visit their daughter Michelle who lives in North Pole, Alaska. Until her retirement, Sandy had never fired a gun. At 55 years old she took up a U.P. tradition of deer hunting and spent many years in the great outdoors enjoying nature and family bonding. She also became a very successful hunter bagging several bucks; the largest being a nice 9 pointer, which she was very proud of.

Known by family and friends as the “Snack Queen”, she could always be counted on at get-togethers to have an endless supply of snacks to pass around. She was especially revered for these talents at the annual “Beach Blast” hosted by Sandy and Joe each August at their residence on Sand Bay.

Sandra would want to be remembered as someone that was always fair, caring, honest, and always put the interests and needs of all others before herself. She was the cornerstone of her family, which was her pride and joy; she will be greatly missed.

Sandra is survived by Joseph, her husband of 52 years; son, Michael (Mary Anne) Bourgeois; daughter, Michelle (Gregg) Atkins; grandson, Daniel Bourgeois; step-granddaughter, Ashley McNally; sisters, Carol Pazolt, Marilee Burdick, Gayle Cuff, Elizabeth (Jeff) Mehlhaff; brothers, Milton Burdick, James Burdick, Thomas (Carol) Burdick, Roger (Roberta) Burdick; as well as numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by sisters, Barbara Mahn, Sharron Burdick; brothers, Louis Burdick, Donald Burdick, Robert Burdick.

Friends may call at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Saturday, April 17, beginning at 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Masks and social distancing are required and no reception will be held. A 25 person attendance limitation will be observed as directed by the MDHHS. Private family services will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

It was Sandra’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations in her honor to Room at the Inn Shelter in Marquette. https://roomattheinn.org/

Classmate Penny Chisholm was featured in this past week's NOVA on PBS.  It described how female faculty and scientists at MIT and other schools were sexually harrassed, given less lab space and paid less than their male counterparts.  If you didn't see it but have PBS Passport, I recommend checking it out especially if you have daughters or granddaughters in STEM fields.

Hello everyone,

Recent quiet moments led me to look back through our Tatler yearbooks , 1962-1965.  This is what I found.

We did have a large graduating class.   It might have been larger had all of those who joined the class during those four years been able to graduate with us.

Some of you must have known, and may still know classmates from the early years.   I wonder how many were in elementary schools with us?

Challenge your memory.  The answer to the following question is based upon homeroom photos and the indexes for each Tatler.

How much larger might the class of 1965 have been?  Let’s compare notes and stories at the picnic in July.  The answer might surprise you.

Hi everyone....it's been so long since  I've been on the class site, am having trouble trying to remember how to use it.  Sure want to thank the classmates for the wonderful Birthday wishes, won't go thru the names, but they know who they are.  I have been very busy helping take of my wife (Marilyn) who had a battle with small-cell lung cancer.  She did extremely well with the chemo/radiation.   Just waiting now to see if she can just go once a year for the yearly checkups...She had a terrible fall 2 weeks ago and was injured very seriously.  Hospitalized for 4 days with fractures around the right side of her cheek bone, 3 inch gash by the eyebrow and  a sever concussion with some bleeding by the brain....hospital care was great in the Intensive Care Unit.  They scanned her brain every 2-5 hours and everything went well.  Maybe I should have had mine done at the same time......just a little dry humor...I know some of you might agree to that comment..That last fall was the 4th time over a period of about 5or 6 years and they were bad also.   She's doing great in her recovery at home.  I don't know if we'll make it the picinic, but if we don't I will be thinking of everyone and wishing everyone kind and wonderul wishes for you all.   Pete $smiley

So sorry to hear of Marilyn's difficult time and wishing her the best recovery possible.  It would be nice to catch a quick visit at the picnic.  Perhaps things will improve enough by mid-July for you and Marilyn to join us for a short time.  I would love to see Marilyn ~ and course you too, Pete!  My sincere best wishes to you both!

Wow, Pete!  So sorry to hear that you and Marilyn have been thru such a really rough year!  Thoughts and prayers for you both.  You'd better be giving her AAA 5-star service at home!   I think my plans may change so that I won't be able to make the 55+1 picnic.  I wish all of us good health and happiness as we come out of hibernation!  God bless you all and stay safe everyone!!

~ Karen

-- hope to see you all in 2022!!

This was from the 1962 Tatler.  Anyone remember having this experience in our freshmen year?

There was no information on the page, but it certainly reminded me of the year we’ve just lived   Guess history really does repeat itself in some ways.   (May have been a TB test)   We still line up for shots.

TB Tine test...formed a little bubble on your arm and determined or showed the presence of TB.  Remember that well...guys used to slap one anothers arms to pop the bubble.....memories.

I sure do!!  The classmate just before me moved his arm as the TB test was being done and the needle broke in his arm.  Needless to say ~ I WAS OUT OF THERE!! surprise

There were many who said they were looking forward to finally having our much-delayed 55th reunion.  Should we move forward with those plans?  It would be a combined 55th-60th reunion and the last of our 2-day reunions.

I talked to NMU and because everyone pushed their 2021 plans to 2022, right now, the only Friday-Saturday that is available for the whole summer (all the way through December!) is July 8-9, 2022.  The NMU coordinator will look through her bookings to see if some of the reservations might eventually cancel.  But, if that's all that ends up being available, how do those dates look to everyone?
