Pat,

Thank you for arranging the picnic and keeping everyone in the know. Very much appreciated!

It was great to see everyone after so many years. Next year dates work for me at this point in time and I hope to see many more classmates.

If there is anything I can do to help you in the preparation, by all means let me know.

Di

Lest I forget, thanks to Marylyn Erickson for bringing a delicious birthday cake, to Skip VanBuren for breakfast Friday, for Togo's sandwiches and flowers for the ladies, and to Sue Sicotte for bringing a selection of cut fruits.  Apologies if I missed anyone.

Hi classmates, so sorry to miss the gathering. I had to come to Marquette a week early. Got a hold of Skip Van Buren and Bob Berryman at that time! Nice to see Diane Howell! One of my favorite friends in high school. Will make plans for next year! Greetings to Chuck. Will pray for you all!

It was a beautiful day for a gathering of the 1965 grads from MSHS and BBHS! So glad to see and visit with so many of you. I will look forward to a full-blown reunion next year and have put the dates on my calendar :-)

Thanks to all for the hard work and generous gifts. Can't say enough good things about our group!

Hi. Need help remembering. Mary will know if you don't. What was the teen dance place back in the 1960s called that is where the Iron Bay Restaurant is currently? Corner of East Washington Street and Lake shore blvd. Below what was the LS&I RR offices.

The Waterfront?  I remember the dance floor...was it granite?  It was stone and had a pattern like it was tiled.

I think you are right, Pat.

It definitely was called the Water Front.  I believe it had something to do with an old movie that Marlon Brando was in.  In fact, there was a large photo of him in "girls" bathroom wall!  smiley

That Marlon Brando picture was over the main room inside the entrance to the Waterfront (definitely that was the name)- may have been moved to the bathroom  later- not my input- but my wife (Janice Kamppinen) certainly thinks it was!  P

Opened up the Mining Journal and saw obituary of Michele DeMerse's husband Dennis.  Had no idea he was sick.

I am hoping it is ok to post this but they have said prayers for him at his church.  Skip has been very sick and is still in the hospital.  I know some of the problems but am not completely sure of all the info.  Hopefully the road to recovery will go smoothly.  It was serious enough for him to be in ICU for quite a long time.

Yes, indeed the Waterfront. Thanks all for answering my question.

Hey guys, been a while. saw Skip today. We almost lost him. He had a blowout in his small intestine where the doctor had difficulty getting to it. Skip said it was the worst pain he's had.

I could tell he is still in quite a bit of pain, but, still Skip....if you know what I mean...LOL. We talked about he and I getting out in the bush when he feels better.

I was assaulted last thursday by a guy who has a history of assaults. $3,250 damage to my car, then got head butted by him and he left the scene after. There were about a dozen witnesses to the whole thing with pictures. Thank God for college kids! Nose is still a bit sore, but, I never fell down. Guess I'm tougher than I thought. This world has gone to hell in a hand basket! Thanks to God I was strong enough to withstand the urge to pull my pistol and shoot him.(Not to kill, just to stop the attack.) Not a single fire arm I own has ever injured or killed another human being. A fact I am proud of and want to keep it that way. During the whole thing I told him I would defend myself. That's when he said "go ahead" and head butted me. I think he then realized he could have been shot and fled the scene.  I heard a woman say "poor old man." I wanted to ask "Who's old?! I won't be 3/4 of a century until......next month!"  Yes, folks...I can still laugh it off. Think the guy is really a coward at  heart. I'll tell you one thing, coming off that adrenalin high is the pits. I thought my tremers were bad!

Glad to hear that Skip is doing better.
What an experience you had. Thought that crap happened in the big city. Every day there is at least one incident in our area. Hang in there

08/29/21 12:40 PM #2197

Marylyn Erickson (Lee)

Good grief!   You and Skip have been through a lot .   Sorry you had that experience.   Try taking  out your uke to help calm those tremors.

Thanks for the update, Bob.  If you see Skip again, tell him we're thinking of him.  And your experience with being assaulted is scary.  You said the guy who hit you had a history of assaults.  Are charges being brought against him?

08/29/21 07:20 PM #2199

Karen Wright (Lancaster)

So glad both of you guys are ok. Bob, glad you kept your head and made it thru in tact. And so glad to hear Skip is getting better. Thoughts and prayers to all.

Yes, I am pressing charges. I'm just waiting for the prosecutor to call me. Even though the head but stund me, I didn't go down. Found out I'm a tough old dog yet. I am very impressed with holding back my anger at the last. If I had let my anger get hold of me I might have shot him. God  stayed my hand from drawing my pistol. As I said, none of my guns have ever injured or killed another human being. A fact I am proud of. I think it surprised him that "this old man" didn't collapse from his head but.

He may get charged with assault with a motor vehicle, bodily assault, and fleeing the scene of an accident. I don't think those are misdemeaners. I seriously don't think much will come of it knowing the judicial system in this town.

If I would have shot him, I more than likely would have been arrested. "The police are here to protect us."  I am sorry, but, they can't find their asses with both hands.

The U.S. Constitution affords us the right of self protection. Marquette cops don't see it that way.

I don't plan on making a big deal out of it. I was thinking of telling the prosecutor he has the report, what ever he wants.  It isn't worth the aggravation to push the incident. I'm more interested in continuning on with the rest of my.....peaceful life. I have more important things to do than getting justice for myself. I can still drive my car and I'm still walking around. Good enough. Peace and prosperity all.

OH! Marylyn, I ordered a steel guitar. Check out you tube. El Condor Pasa
