Smaller group, but every bit as much fun as we had at the 50th.   So many stories, music, ( Woolley Bully), hugs and laughter made our reunion a total success.  Thanks to all who helped bring it together.  Definitely worth waiting to see all of you. Hope somehow to continue the fun at picnics and Troll gatherings.  Remember, the chat line is available to all classmates, via general or private messages. Follow Pats email directions to log in.  'til we meet again, Marylyn

Dick Johnson sent a picture of Mrs. Levine's 3rd grade class at Froebel School. Can you identify classmates in this picture?  Hopefully, you don't have the same picture with all the names written on the back :-)

I saw a few I think I recognized but am not sure:  Jim Bergland (back row second from left)?, Penny Chisholm (back row on right)?, Rick Hartwig (4th row, 2nd from left)?, Laura Savitski (4th row, right)?, Bob Thomsen (back row, 2nd from right)?, Connie Youren (1st row, 3rd from right)?, George Voce (front row, 2nd from right)?.  How about some help, especially if I'm wrong?  At least some of the people in the picture were probably at the reunion.  Do you recognize yourself?

Richard Johnson

I believe that is Dan Smyth next to George Voce.   On the far left is Guy Nankarado and then Eugene Ristimaa.  The second row right end is Jay Olson and then Jim Pearce.  Third row second from the left is Morris Wheeler.  Back row left is Alan Johnson next to Jim Bergland.  Back row next to Bob Thomsen I believe is Bruce Ragusett.  I believe in the second-row center left next to my cousin Tom is Mary Darling.  The photo is from 66 years ago so it is hard to put names and faces together.

No, that is not me ~ I attended Fisher Street School.

Gads, that's a long time ago!  It's me in the 3rd row far right. 4th row far right Phyllis Matt, then Lorna York, then Toni Wareham.  1st row Judy Cain is next to Eugene Ristima, to the left of Connie Youren is Nancy Fletcher, then Judy Winka.

I think I remember someone saying they were on the aircraft carrier that picked one of the Apollo craft.  One of my neighbors just mentioned that he was there for one.  I know my memory is not all it used to be but PLEASE tell me someone was there!!

Karen:  I think it might have been Al Filizetti

My first thought was that it might have been Dennis Betway.

Thanks, folks.  It was Al.  I'll check with my neighbor now to see if it was the same ship.

Hope you all are doing okey dokey.  Sadly I'm starting to see signs of fall which leads to that cold frozen stuff.  So let's all get out and enjoy the colors before it all goes white!  Take care!!

Alan Filizetti

I was Aboard the USS Arlington it was a converted aircraft carrier to a super communication ship we were part of the Apollo eight recovery we provided all the communication from the astronauts to NASA . Also to  phone call from the president when he gave his message to the astronauts of congratulations.  I got out of the Navy shortly after Apollo ate the ship went on to a couple more Apollo recoveries. The ships primary duty was sitting off the coast of Vietnam providing communications for the entire seventh fleet and all the unsure facilities. The ship always stayed in that area around Vietnam and the cruise rotated once a year.

Albert (Chuck) Langlois

Again, Al, thanks for your service.  It was an exciting time.

I was at Johnston Atoll during the Apollo 11 recovery.  President Nixon was there and flew out to the Hornet to meet the astronauts.  After the recovery he toured Johnston Atoll for a meet and greet.  If anyone is interested you can watch this event on You Tube by entering Johnston Atoll Nixon Visit.  I'm in the crowd somewhere.

Jan Clark Greenleaf's obituary:

Jan Karen Greenleaf, age 75, of Marquette, entered eternal life Monday, August 29, 2022, at home with her family by her side.

Jan was born December 9, 1946 to Ken and Doris Clark, and attended Marquette Senior High School and Northern Michigan University. She worked at Norlite Nursing Center in the 1980’s as an aide, and later was employed with the Marquette Public Schools from 1990 to 2000 as a special education aide.

In her leisure, Jan enjoyed watching the Tigers, Pistons, and Lions games and was a 32 year season ticket holder of NMU hockey. During spring training she traveled to Florida with her best friends, the Matchets, to watch her beloved Tigers train for the upcoming season. In the 1980’s, Jan herself played softball on the Cal’s Party Store Team. Pizza from Vangos and the Casa was her favorite! She was also known as a talented cook and baker who could make an excellent lasagna, amazing Texas Sheet Cake, chocolate chip cookies, and taffy apple dessert.

She made every holiday festive, especially Christmas, where she meticulously trimmed the tree and put out many special displays. Her favorites were Christmas and Halloween. Jan cherished her porcelain dolls, Precious Moments and any and all candles from Partylite.

A loving wife, mother, and grandma, Jan is survived by her husband of 32 years, Neil Greenleaf, whom she married June 29, 1990 at St. Michael Catholic Church; her children, Mathew Taylor and his children, Gabe and Elijah, Jeremy Taylor and his son, Avery, Pam (Jeff) Cornock and their children, Sydney and Shawn, and Kelly (Pat) Lynch and their children, Sophie and Hannah; her sisters, Denise Hyde and Kathy Thompson; brothers, Dan (Pam) Clark, and Teddy Clark; her nieces and nephews, Jenny, Luke and Joel Hyde, and Charlotte and Stephen Thompson.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Roger Hyde.

Her proudest accomplishments are her grandchildren and their success in music, sports, and academics!

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Michael Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 6, beginning at 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am with Rev. Greg Heikkala, pastor, as celebrant. A reception will follow in the Parish Center. Interment will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bay Cliff Health Camp, P.O. Box 310, Big Bay, MI 49808.

Kudos to Jim Provost for his long dedication and service to veterans.  So nice to read about you in the Mining Journal. You must have heard some amazing stories over the years.

Please allow me to share that our Gold Star family was blessed this August when a nephew heard a YouTube program in which his deceased Uncle Garrett was mentioned.   The speaker was a veteran who has also devoted much of his life to aiding veterans, particularly from the Vietnam era.  Our nephew contacted the speaker and we learned that not only did he know "Gary" but he tried to save him during the battle of IaDrang Valley in November 1965. Learning that their loved one wasn't totally alone has been a long delayed (57 years) blessing for this Lee family, as well as one for Jesse "Bud" Alley, the podcaster.   He had tried to locate this family but due to Gary's changes in address Bud wasn't successful.    Nuw we are all in touch and have plans to meet back in Kingsford, Gary's hometown.  Bud has also shared copies of his book "Ghosts of the Green Grass" which details his memories of those days.  As a historian he added an interesting element by including some aspects of Custers Last Stand .  Gary was in the 7th Cav of the 1st Cav AirMobile Division . Custer was General of the 7th Cav, historically defeated at the Little Big Horn.  Thanks for allowing me to share our story, and to say I'm so glad to know the Class of '65.
